Backcountry Brewing is looking for a part-time Accounting Coordinator to support our finance team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys bookkeeping, keeping systems organized, and making sure the hundreds of small accounting tasks that happen every week actually happen.
A significant part of the role is Accounts Payable, but that's only one piece of the job. You'll also help with recurring bookkeeping, daily transaction processing, finance administration, and whatever else is needed to keep the accounting running smoothly. The work has a rhythm, but no two weeks look exactly alike. We are a brewery, restaurant, manufacturer, distributor, and occasional source of accounting puzzles.
You'll work closely with our Finance Manager and Financial Operations Coordinator. Together, the team keeps the day-to-day accounting current while making sure the numbers accurately reflect what's happening in the business.
What You'll Do
· Manage the Accounts Payable process from invoice collection through payment preparation and recording.
· Monitor Dext and MarginEdge workflows and follow up on missing approvals or documentation.
· Communicate with suppliers and work with colleagues across the business to gather information, resolve questions, and keep work moving.
· Enter daily sales and other purchases and accounting transactions.
· Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation electronically.
· Help manage the finance inbox and ensure requests reach the right place.
· Assist with month-end preparation.
· Identify recurring issues and suggest practical solutions to finance processes.
· Provide coverage for routine finance tasks as priorities shift and teammates are away.
What Success Looks Like
- Invoices, payments, and recurring transactions are processed accurately and on time.
- The quality of entries takes precedence over the quantity of entries.
- Vendor questions are answered promptly and professionally.
- Accounting information is organized, complete, and easy to locate.
- Routine work keeps moving without requiring constant follow-up.
- People know they can rely on you to see things through, communicate clearly, and keep work moving.
- Problems are noticed early, communicated openly, and addressed before they become bigger issues.
- Recurring issues become less common because you're interested in improving the process, not just completing the task.
- Reliable day-to-day accounting creates reliable financial reporting.
What We're Looking For
- Bookkeeping, accounting, or administrative experience.
- Comfort working with spreadsheets and accounting software.
- Confidence working with people across the business to get the information you need.
- The ability to decide what needs attention today and what can wait until tomorrow.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to manage recurring work without losing sight of priorities.
- Good judgment and the curiosity to understand why something doesn't look right.
- A habit of improving systems, not just completing tasks.
- Comfort learning new software and working across multiple systems.
Experience with QuickBooks Online, Microsoft 365, Dext, or similar software is helpful but not required.
About Backcountry
Backcountry Brewing is not a large corporate office.
We are an independent craft brewery. Alongside brewing operations, we operate a busy restaurant and distribute beer throughout BC. Forklifts move pallets. Brewers make beer. Sales staff solve customer problems and deliver beer. The Tasting Room gets very busy. Managers wear multiple hats. Finance is no different.
People help one another. Responsibilities have owners, but they aren't surrounded by fences. Sometimes you'll spend an hour processing invoices. Sometimes you'll help untangle an odd payment, improve a spreadsheet, help a co-worker with a finance process, or figure out why something doesn't quite add up.
The people who thrive on the Finance Team are dependable, curious, comfortable working with real-world complexity, and naturally leave things a little better than they found them.
