Reporting to the Manager of Health and Safety the Coordinator of Vehicle & Equipment Training is responsible for the coordination of, and/or development, administration, conducting, and evaluation of all corporate vehicle and mobile equipment safety and operator training programs; including operator evaluation, testing, and certification on various pieces of equipment utilized across all municipal services. This position is responsible for the corporate driver training program for all City qualified drivers (including seasonal staff) in accordance with the City's driving-related policies and Ministry of Transportation requirements, including the Provincial Driver Certification Program and related legislation. This position provides assistance, guidance, and advice to all levels of staff on maintaining compliance with corporate and/or regulatory standards. In addition, this position may be required to investigate vehicle and equipment collisions or incidental damages to determine cause and recommended preventability measures.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
Secondary School Diploma
Completion of Possession of an Adult Education Training Certificate or equivalent. within 90 Days
Completion of Class DZ Driver License or equivalent Diving record shall meet the minimum standard set out buy the Ministry of Transportation Recognized/Signing Authority Program) along with a clean driver abstract Upon Hire
Eligibility for and willingness to obtain Recognized Signing Authority for Driver Certification Program (DCP) within 180 Days

Experience
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
- General knowledge of the following legislation, regulations, or requirements: AODA, Book 7
- Thorough knowledge of the following legislation, regulations, or requirements: Highway Traffic Act and associated regulations, Commercial Vehicle Operators Registration System, Ministry of Transport Driver Certification Program (DCP), Occupational Health and Safety Act, Hours of Service.
- Working knowledge of the following principles and standards: Excellent interpersonal, communication (written verbal and presentation) organizational, and research.
- Demonstrated Ability to:
- to work and demonstrate initiative and results under pressure in a fast paced unionized environment
- to work collaboratively with all levels of staff, external agencies and the public
- Intermediate computer literacy using the following systems and software: Microsoft Office i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. MTO ARIS system for driver abstracts.
- Availability to assist with after-hours questions, concerns, or emergencies; to attend evening/weekend meetings or special events; or to work outside of designated normal hours per week
Conditions of Employment
- Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's Licence in a good standing with a reliable vehicle for use on corporate business
- Valid Ontario Class "D" Driver's Licence with a "Z" endorsement in a good standing
- Valid Ontario Class "A" Driver's Licence with a "Z" endorsement in a good standing
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check*
- Please note that this is a requirement for any new employees to the City of Barrie in accordance with the Police Record Check Policy. Existing employees who have met this criteria will be exempt from this requirement.

Location: City Hall, 70 Collier Street, and Operations Centre, 165 Ferndale Drive N, both in Barrie, ON*
*Please note that the City has a Hybrid Work Program Policy in place that may allow a hybrid work arrangement of one (1) remote day per week for employees who meet eligibility requirements.
Hours: The normal hours of work are 35 hours per week; however, some non-standard hours may apply
Wage: This is a temporary full-time non-union position with the following pay level and 2026 pay range:
- Pay Level: Level 11
- Yearly Salary: $83,165.82 to $111,460.53
- Hourly Pay Rate: $45.70 to $61.24
