The Opportunity
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant is responsible for helping manage the accounts receivable, accounts payable and cash management functions while also playing a support role with financial reporting.

What You’ll Be Doing
Accounts Receivable

Reconcile receivables by brokers and follow up on any differences

Processing receipts (EFT’s, cheques and ClearPay) into our accounting module

Prepare bank deposits

Maintain broker accounts records, ensure accuracy of monthly broker statements
Accounts payable

Assist with finance controls surrounding payments

Assist in processing payments in our accounting module

Provide insights and expense analysis to internal stakeholders
Financial Reporting

Prepare journal entries for month end process

Assist in monthly and year end closing processes along with the preparation of financial statements for internal, external and regulatory reporting purposes

Assist in the implementation of new accounting standards

Assist with audit requests

Analyze financial data and identify discrepancies and issues.

Participate in Automation initiatives to assist in creating efficiencies within the function.

The ideal combination of education and experience:

Post-Secondary Education in Accounting or Finance

Minimum of two years of relevant and progressive experience in area of accounts receivables and/or general accounting.

Working towards a CPA designation is an asset

Strong knowledge of MS Office - particularly Excel

Strong problem-solving skills, math skills, demonstrated logic and accuracy

Excellent time management skills

The anticipated base salary range for this position is (60,000-70,000). Compensation may vary for roles in other regions to reflect local market conditions and currency differences. At Tokio Marine Canada, our salary ranges are designed to reflect the skills, experience, and responsibilities required for each role while providing room for growth. For experienced professionals, offers are typically positioned near the midpoint of the range. The upper end of the range is reserved for individuals who consistently deliver exceptional performance and impact. Candidates who are newer to the role may start below the midpoint, with opportunities to progress as they develop. Final offer decisions take into account factors such as location, relevant experience, and individual skill set.

We work in a hybrid model, and you should expect to split your time between working in the office and working remotely, with flexibility based on the role and the business needs.
We currently have an office in downtown Toronto and will eventually be establishing offices in other provinces. Should you currently work in a province where we do not have an office, you will remain remote until such time as we do establish an office.
