As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team. This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in the financial management of residential construction projects while partnering closely with leadership and operations teams to support business performance and growth.
The Opportunity
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, project and job costing support, reconciliations, budgeting assistance, and financial analysis across multiple residential construction projects.
The ideal candidate brings in-depth accounting experience, and are detail-oriented, analytical, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced organization where collaboration and continuous improvement are valued.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Complete month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and post journal entries while maintaining general ledger accuracy.
- Perform account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Support external accountants and auditors during year-end reviews and audits.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and internal controls.
Construction & Project Accounting
- Support accounting activities related to single-family, multifamily, infill, and low-rise residential construction projects.
- Monitor project costs, budgets, and financial performance.
- Assist with job costing, project reporting, and variance analysis.
- Review construction expenditures and support cost allocation processes.
- Collaborate with project managers and operational leaders to provide financial insights and reporting.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
- Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Analyze project profitability, cash flow, and operational performance.
- Prepare financial models and ad hoc reporting for management.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting, processes, and efficiencies.
Operational Support
- Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management activities.
- Support inventory and work-in-progress accounting where applicable.
- Maintain and strengthen accounting processes and internal controls.
- Participate in special projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Experience and Qualifications
- 5-10+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- A professional accounting designation (CPA, CGA, CMA) is considered an asset but is not required.
- Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting.
- Experience within residential construction, homebuilding, land development, or project-based environments is consdiered an asset.
- Experience with job costing, project accounting, and construction financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience working with ERP or accounting systems is required.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
