Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of a wide range of heavy equipment, truck/trailer, and crushing spreads. As a lead, you will guide a team of technicians, ensuring safety, efficiency, and high-quality service. Your expertise in heavy equipment operation, diagnostics, and repairs will drive operational excellence and keep our fleet running smoothly. Rate is to be discussed based on experience.
Candidate must be open to rotational work/ shift work when required.
Duties
- Perform comprehensive diagnostics and repairs on heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders , dozers, and crushing spreads using OEM schematics and technical manuals.
- Utilize Diagnostic programs and laptops to troubleshoot ( Jpro, Cat ET, ETC)
- Lead maintenance activities including engine repairs, transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, air brakes, and electrical systems to ensure optimal equipment performance.
- Conduct fabrication and welding tasks for custom modifications or repairs using power tools and hand tools.
- Oversee safety protocols during heavy lifting, tire service, assembly, and equipment operation to maintain a safe work environment.
- Utilize automotive diagnostics tools to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues on diesel engines and other industrial machinery.
- Manage service schedules, perform routine inspections, and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime.
- Mentor junior technicians by sharing technical knowledge on vehicle maintenance, HVAC systems, soldering techniques, and other specialized skills.
Requirements
- Proven mechanic experience with heavy equipment such as excavators, Loaders, Dozers, and Crushing spreads.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diesel engine repair.
- Ability to read schematics accurately and interpret OEM manuals for troubleshooting complex issues.
- Skilled in fabrication, welding, assembly work, and use of power tools for equipment repair or modification projects.
- Experience operating heavy machinery or performing heavy lifting tasks safely within industrial environments.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance including brake repair, alignment services, tire service, suspension systems, HVAC components, and air brake systems.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to clients or team members.
- Red seal/ Journeyperson certificate is an asset
