Overview
The Short Order Cook in our Deli plays a vital role in preparing high-quality, ready-to-eat deli items, including sandwiches, salads, entrees, and plated desserts. They will be responsible for the daily prep for the sandwich station and catering operations with a focus on the Sandwich Bar and Deli Meats section. They will support the culinary and deli team to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Duties
- Ensuring food items are being prepared according to standardized recipes and ready for store opening and meal service times
- Preparing and assembling a variety of deli sandwiches to order, for grab-and-go, and for catering orders
- Slicing, weighing and packaging deli meats and cheeses for customers of the store
- Portioning and retherming prepared entrees and sides according to food safety standards
- Creating and packaging fresh salads, sides, and other deli items for display or customer orders
- Plating and garnishing desserts, and maintaining the dessert fridge with fresh stock, as needed
- Following recipes, portioning guidelines, and presentation standards set by the Head Chef and Deli leadership
- Assisting with daily prep tasks, including chopping, labeling, inventory rotation, and cleaning duties
- Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the deli counter, prep area, and kitchen equipment
- Practicing safe food handling and sanitation protocols at all times
- Providing friendly and helpful customer service when filling special orders or interacting with guests
- Working in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and all internal health and safety policies
Qualifications
- Two years of experience in preparing sandwiches, salads and general food prep (preferred) in a high volume setting
- Previous experience in a kitchen or deli setting (preferred)
- Basic knife skills and safe handling of commercial kitchen equipment
- Understanding of food safety practices; possessing a Food Handler’s certificate is considered an asset
- Strong organizational skills and an eye for detail in both prep and presentation
- Able to follow directions well while being comfortable working independently or as part of a team
- Able to multitask and manage priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Effective communication skills and a positive, customer-first attitude
- Able to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods of time
Pay: $16.75-$17.00 per hour
