Canadian International Student Services (CISS) is seeking qualified Waterfront Counsellors to join our team at Swallowdale Camp, based at Rosseau Lake College.
This is an international overnight summer camp, and we are specifically looking for counsellors with strong waterfront qualifications (Bronze Cross and/or NLS) who are confident leading paddling activities while ensuring the highest standards of safety on the water.
Position Overview
Waterfront Counsellors are responsible for leading safe, engaging kayak, canoe, and SUP sessions while supervising campers both on and off the water. The successful candidate is an enthusiastic, responsible, and safety-focused leader who actively engages campers and confidently manages waterfront programming.
This is a residential position. Staff are required to live on-site for the duration of their contract (July 7 - August 2). Accommodation and meals are included.
Specific duties may include but are not limited to:
- Leading safe and structured kayak, canoe, and SUP sessions
- Supervising campers on and around the waterfront
- Enforcing all safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Teaching fundamental paddling skills and water safety
- Assisting with swim tests and waterfront supervision
- Leading and participating in camp-wide activities and excursions
- Supervising campers during meals and in residence
- Performing night duty as scheduled
- Supporting the overall success of camp operations
Essential Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Bronze Cross (minimum requirement)
- National Lifeguard (NLS) certification strongly preferred
- Current First Aid and CPR (C)
- Experience working with youth (camp or outdoor setting preferred)
- Confident supervising campers in open-water environments
- Eligible to work in Canada
- Able to provide a current Criminal Record Check / Vulnerable Sector Check
- Ability to live on-site for the full contract period
Preferred Qualifications
- Paddle Canada / ORCKA certifications
- Previous overnight camp experience
- Boating License
- Experience leading structured waterfront programming
