About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a senior gentleman living independently in his own home in St. Catharines. While his physical mobility remains good, he is oxygen-dependent 24/7, which limits his ability to perform daily tasks without becoming short of breath. He currently receives government-funded PSW support three times weekly for bathing assistance. He values his independence and would benefit from someone calm, patient, and reliable who can help him maintain his quality of life at home.
Responsibilities:
The caregiver will provide essential support with household tasks and companionship. Primary duties include light housekeeping and laundry, as the client's oxygen dependency makes these tasks challenging. Meal preparation assistance is needed, primarily reheating meals and providing reminders. Grocery shopping support is required, either through coordinating deliveries or picking up items as needed. The client would greatly appreciate companionship outings—he cannot walk outside independently but would love to be taken for drives and coffee outings to get out of the house. Transportation for errands and appointments is also needed. The caregiver should be comfortable working alongside existing government PSW services and coordinating care as needed.
What We're Looking For:
We need someone with experience supporting seniors who use oxygen equipment and understand the limitations this creates. The ideal caregiver is calm and patient, reliable and consistent, takes initiative when tasks need attention, communicates clearly with family members, and has relevant skills and experience in senior care. A valid driver's license is required for transportation needs. English-speaking ability is essential. Experience with mobility and transfer assistance is important, as the client needs support while walking or moving around. The caregiver should respect the client's independence while providing necessary support.
Schedule:
We're looking for regular weekly support with visits a few times each week. Weekend availability is welcome, and there are no premium rates for evenings or weekends. Consistency in scheduling and caregiver assignment is very important to the family.
