Position Summary
The Early Years Family Support Worker provides direct support to children and families through family-centered programming, community outreach, referrals, cultural activities, and early childhood development initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with families to build connections, reduce barriers to services, and promote healthy child development while incorporating Indigenous culture, language, and teachings into programming.
Key ResponsibilitiesSupporting Families
- Facilitate parenting groups and family support activities.
- Provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment for children and families.
- Conduct outreach and provide information on available community resources.
- Support families through one-on-one interactions, home visits, and family-centered programming.
Family Navigation
- Assist families in accessing health, education, social, and community services.
- Provide referrals and advocacy for vulnerable families.
- Help families identify needs and connect with appropriate service providers.
Early Childhood Programming
- Plan and deliver activities that support healthy child development.
- Organize literacy, developmental, cultural, and family engagement programs.
- Support children's physical, emotional, social, and cognitive growth.
Community Engagement
- Promote community participation and belonging through events and outreach.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with community partners.
- Encourage peer connections and family engagement.
Cultural Programming
- Incorporate Indigenous culture, traditions, values, and teachings into programming.
- Support Indigenous language revitalization activities.
- Work collaboratively with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members.
- Create opportunities for children and families to strengthen cultural connections.
QualificationsRequired
- Diploma or certificate in Human Services, Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Indigenous Studies, or a related field; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience working with children, youth, and families.
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures and community-based approaches to wellness.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Valid BC Driver's Licence and reliable transportation.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
Preferred Assets
- Experience facilitating family, parenting, or community programs.
- Knowledge of local resources and support services.
- First Aid Certification.
- Experience working in Indigenous communities or organizations.
