Position Summary:
The successful Deckhand is responsible to maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the vessel, ensuring guest comfort and safety while cruising, and assisting with docking and undocking. Additionally, the Deckhand plays a key role in enhancing the overall guest experience by promoting and selling food and beverages onboard the vessels. This role requires a commitment to personal presentation, excellent guest service, and effective communication skills. Flexibility in scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, is essential for this position.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follows safety procedures to ensure the protection of passengers and the vessels.
- Participates in routine safety drills and daily training talks to prepare for emergencies.
- Handles lines to moor vessels to pier.
- Familiar with emergency gear, deck gear, and vessel emergency plans.
- Performs safety functions as per the muster list, Safety Management System, and as otherwise assigned.
- Assists Captain and Mates in maintaining vessel.
- Engages with passengers and answer questions and provides amazing customer service.
- Report safety concerns and deficiencies regarding the vessel, or any other on-site equipment to the Mate, Captain, Manager, Marine Operations, or Director, Marine & Facilities.
- Assist with passenger embarkation and disembarkation.
- Scan and validate tickets using scanning devices or apps.
- Maintains the cleanliness and safety of the vessel by performing frequent walk-throughs and assisting crew with post-cruise cleaning.
- Sweeps, mops, and washes down decks and exterior to remove dirt, and debris, using brooms, mops, brushes, and hoses.
- Loads and unloads materials from vessel, including gathering and removing trash from the vessel.
- Ensures onboard restrooms are cleaned and maintained before, during and after cruises.
- Adheres to all Company health and safety regulations.
- Works with a safety mindset by following all safety policies, procedures, and safety measures (i.e. PPE). Identify and reports any risks or hazards.
- Assists the Food and Beverage team during the pre-season set-up and post-season clear out of onboard canteen offerings and supplies.
- Assists Food & Beverage department staff with daily restocking of vessel canteen menu offerings.
- Ensures timely execution of preparing canteen daily offerings, prior to vessel embarkment, including but not limited to brewing coffee, making popcorn, and steaming hot dogs.
- Responsible for picking up the vessel float from land-based Food & Beverage Manager and being accountable for correctly processing payment and resubmission of float & deposit at end of cruising day.
- Assists guests by being knowledgeable about the menu offerings, answering any food and beverage related questions.
- Uses of point-of-sale system to accurately manage and complete food & beverage transactions.
- Completes all daily checklists provided by Food & Beverage Manager, as related to the operations of the canteen onboard.
- Completes daily stock inventory, reporting to Food & Beverage department supply requirements for follow cruising day.
- Assists Food & Beverage department with mid-season inventory evaluation.
- Responsible for stock rotation and inventory waste management.
- Provides amazing hospitality to guests and crew as prescribed in RESPECT Service System.
- Accountable for following all City Cruises Gananoque policies and procedures.
- Report to work on time and for all scheduled shifts.
- Maintains uniform and personal grooming in compliance with appearance standards.
- Completes any other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- O.S.S.D. or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education.
- Responsible alcohol service requirements – Smart Serve Certification required.
- Must hold a qualified passport to be able to legally enter the United States.
- Required to take limited MED (Marine Emergency Duty Course) to be certified as deck crew on our vessels (course provided by company).
- Must be able to effectively understand and convey written and verbal information to guests and crew.
- A positive attitude and good work ethic.
- Reliable transportation to and from work is required, with the ability to get to both Ivy Lea and Gananoque Ports.
- Energetic and enthusiastic personality essential.
- If required, wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e. non-slip shoes, gloves, weather appropriate dress attire, sun protection).
- Walk, stand, sit and work in all types of weather conditions for extended periods.
- Will work for extended periods of time without sitting.
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift up to 50 pounds (23 kilograms).
- Must be able to throw mooring lines from ship to pier.
- Will be required to be available for work on all major holidays and weekends.
