Position Overview
Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will oversee full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited for a senior finance professional with strong experience in ERP systems, inventory accounting, and operational finance.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership & Reporting
- Oversee full-cycle accounting (AP, AR, payroll, general ledger)
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes
- Prepare financial statements, variance analysis, and management reports
- Ensure compliance with ASPE and internal controls
- Manage external audits and audit preparation
Manufacturing & Cost Accounting
- Lead cost accounting, inventory costing, and standard costing
- Analyze production costs, margins, and operational efficiencies
- Partner with operations on financial insights
- Manage cash flow, working capital, and financial performance metrics
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead annual budgeting and financial planning process
- Develop rolling forecasts and financial models
- Provide strategic financial analysis to leadership
Tax & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Canadian tax regulations (GST/HST, PST, corporate tax)
- Support cross-border (U.S.) financial reporting and tax requirements
- Maintain strong risk management and financial controls
Systems & Process Improvement
- Lead finance initiatives for ERP systems (Dynamics NAV / D365 preferred)
- Improve financial reporting automation and dashboards
- Optimize accounting processes and data integrity
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and mentor an accounting and finance team
- Conduct performance management and coaching
- Build a high-performance finance function
Business Partnership
- Collaborate with operations, supply chain, and executive leadership
- Translate financial data into actionable business insights
- Support capital investments and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- CPA designation (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience
- 5+ years in a leadership role within a manufacturing environment
- Strong expertise in cost accounting and inventory management
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (PivotTables, Power Query, financial modeling)
- Experience with ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics NAV or D365 preferred)
- Strong knowledge of Canadian tax regulations; U.S. experience is an asset
- Excellent communication and business partnering skills
