FFAW-Unifor is seeking a part-time, temporary Project Coordinator to join the FFAW Science team. This position will contribute to the science, assessment, and research initiatives of FFAW-Unifor.
Responsibilities include coordination of field programs as per contract agreements, liaising with harvesters, ensuring data quality and producing project reports. The Project Coordinator will be expected to contribute to documentation, analysis, reports, publications, and presentations based on FFAW-Science surveys and projects
The ideal start date will be July 6th, 2026 and will end on Dec 31, 2026.
Key responsibilities
- Project Coordinator of FFAW Science programs for Atlantic mackerel sampling programs both the detailed DFO-led program (6-7 harvesters) and the broad-scale FFAW-led projects (50-100 harvesters).
- Project Coordinator for Green Crab removal programs, both the Placentia Bay removal project and the proposed Fortune Bay removal project.
- Responsible for data quality checks, data summaries, and short project reports.
- Liaise with project sponsors (e.g., Marine Institute and DFO), ensuring scientific license are procured, and all protocols and data sheets are clear and completed correctly.
- Communication with harvesters and field techs on the project and identifying any issues or strengths with the delivery of projects
Qualifications
- Knowledge of and/or experience in the commercial fishing industry in Newfoundland and Labrador
- Knowledge of unions and the labour movement
- Experience working with commercial fish harvesters, conducting fishers’ knowledge or other collaborative, community-based research
- Excellent organizational skills and communications skills, including strong written and oral communication skills
- Experience working with spreadsheet and database programs
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team
- Driver’s license and access to a vehicle, periodic time outside normal work hours may be required
