POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Solderer performs a variety of standard to moderately complex hand soldering tasks across products, applying IPC standards and established workmanship requirements consistently. This role contributes to team productivity and product quality through independent execution of soldering and electronic assembly work.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform standard hand soldering of electronic components onto circuit boards using through-hole and basic SMT soldering techniques.
- Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, and detailed work instructions to ensure accurate component placement and assembly.
- Apply IPC standards, component handling practices, and workmanship requirements to ensure consistent solder quality.
- Handle moderately complex assemblies independently while meeting production schedules and quality requirements.
- Inspect component placement, solder joints, and assemblies to identify defects and ensure compliance with applicable standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve routine soldering, electrical wiring, and assembly issues; make precise mechanical adjustments as required.
- Communicate soldering, quality, material, or production issues clearly to supervisors, partners, and team members.
- Minimize waste and rework through proper soldering techniques, material handling, and adherence to work instructions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company policies and manufacturing safety requirements.
- Contribute to team productivity, continuous improvement, and overall product quality through reliable and consistent execution.
- Follow established procedures and work instructions to meet production deadlines while maintaining high quality standards.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent experience.
- 1–2+ years of hand soldering and electronics assembly experience.
- Relevant technical certifications, such as IPC, J-STD, or equivalent, may be required
Skills and Knowledge
- Proficiency in through-hole and basic SMT soldering.
- Good understanding of IPC standards and electronic assembly workmanship requirements.
- Ability to solder basic solder cups, sleeves, wires, and simple SMT components.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly instructions.
- Good hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to troubleshoot routine assembly and soldering issues.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Strong situational awareness and ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Work is performed in a controlled manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work in sitting, standing, reaching, bending, and stooped positions.
- Ability to stand for extended periods while performing repetitive production tasks.
- Repetitive hand and wrist movements are required.
- Work may involve exposure to chemicals; applicable PPE must be worn as required.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity are required.
- Color identification is a requirement of the role.
- Ability to safely lift and handle up to 40 lbs.
- Strong awareness of surroundings to maintain personal safety and prevent potential hazards in a manufacturing environment.
Other Details
- Base pay range: $22 - $26 depending on skills and experience, plus 10% shift premium for afternoon shift
- This is regular, full-time employment
- Positions available: 2x Day Shift (Monday to Friday, 7AM-3:30PM), 1x Afternoon Shift (Monday to Friday, 3:30PM-12MN; training for first few months schedule will be 2PM-10:30PM or 7AM-3:30PM)
- Need to be legally eligible to work in British Columbia, Canada, full-time for any employer
- Controlled Goods Program (CGP) Clearance Eligibility Requirement: Candidates need to hold either Canadian citizenship or permanent residency; background check applicable as pre-employment
