We are looking for a dynamic individual to be a part of our team for the position of Term Part-Time Cook's Assistant
- Prepares food and assists in preparing quality food products to be served to residents; internal and external clients; special functions and occasions; caterings and ancillary meal services, according to established standards of Public Health and Food safety protocols
- Assists the cooks' in the food preparation and the daily operation of the kitchen as required, including packaging/portioning and meal distribution; and/or assists with the duties of the cook in their absence
- Assist the cooks' in ordering necessary food items
- Assists and put away food and other deliveries in the designated areas following FIFO and HACCP Principles
- Follows standardized recipes and established house menus; work routines and production sheets set out by the supervisor
- Fills caterings and supply requisitions
- Ensures accurate portion sizes and prompt distribution of all types of meals as per quota/order for delivery to designated service areas - including special functions and caterings for residents/clients - and replenishes these items as necessary
- Responds to and accommodates requests from various service sites/units, residents, internal/external clients - via telephone or electronic communication - providing additional servings/specials, and quality meal services
- Maintains high standards of area and personal hygiene, food safety and sanitation in the work area; ensuring all temperature charts, requisitions and records are completed in accordance with established Food Safety Standards, and current legislation
- Performs established procedures for stock control, cooked/uncooked food packaging and rotation using HACCP principles
- Performs proper operation, safety, cleaning and sanitation procedures (applying WHMIS training and safety protocols) with all equipment; ensuring kitchen equipment is in good repair and functional; and reporting any faults or safety issues to the Supervisor.
- Ensures that the kitchen and equipment are kept clean and hygienic, carrying out duties on the cleaning rotation as required.
- Assists with any other reasonable tasks as per operational requirements requested by a supervisor
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Basic food safety training certificate
- Three to five years of relevant work experience preferably in long-term care facility
- Experience with a de-centralized meal service system an asset
- Pre-employment cooking course an asset
- Reading, understanding verbal and written instructions, basic arithmetic
- Knowledge of the following: Emergency Protocols, Risk Management Procedures, Crisis Intervention Methods (Cook/Chill/Freeze/reheating/serving - production system)
- Possess the following skills: Communication, Organization, Problem Solving, Active Listening, Time Management, Judgement and Decision Making, Operation Monitoring
- Ability to attend work on a regular and consistent basis according to Northwood Standards.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs at a time, in good general health and able to endure the day-to-day pressure of the position.
Hours: Term Part-Time - 48 hours biweekly - 3 Month Term
