Island Métis Family & Community Services Society provides a variety of support programs to Métis children and families living in the greater Victoria area. Currently, IMFCSS is accepting employment applications for the following position.
Family Support Worker
(Full-Time, Permanent position)
Minimum Qualifications, ALL of which must be met in order to be considered for the position:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Social Work or Child & Youth Care.
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and contemporary issues affecting Indigenous peoples, preferably Métis.
- Knowledge of social work policies, procedures, ethics, principles and practice.
- Working knowledge of Child Welfare services and the Child, Family & Community Services Act of British Columbia.
- Excellent organizational, record-keeping and case management skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in the use of computer software, including ability to create statistical reports in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
- Successful candidate will be subject to a criminal record review, police record check and other reference checks.
- Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 driver’s license and reliable vehicle required, and a current copy of driver's abstract must be provided.
Experience:
- One to three years recent experience working with children and families involved with Child Protection, through the Ministry of Children & Family Development or a Indigenous Child & Family Service Agency.

This position requires union membership Hourly rate is $40.03 - $50.59, based on Paraprofessional grid level 14 step 1, and governed by the current Indigenous Services Collective Agreement. Normal schedule of work is 35 hours per week, performed Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, may include other hours based on agency need.
