ABOUT US:
QCL is a luxury fishing resort set in a protected harbor at the northern end of Haida Gwaii. We pride ourselves in the comfort, friendliness, and platinum standard services we provide, and are interested in crew that share this paradigm. Our summer season begins late May, running until mid-September.
All crew are provided with pre/post season return travel from Vancouver to Haida Gwaii, meals, a staff lounge and gym facility, shared accommodations, quality uniforms and the opportunity to fish throughout the season.
Deckhands live onboard the MV Driftwood for the duration of the season.
ABOUT THE M.V. DRIFTWOOD:
Originally called MV Songhee, built in 1944 in New Westminster for the RCAF, this boat went through extensive renovations. It was renamed Driftwood and sailed to Naden Harbour for the 2012 season.
Accommodating up to 12 guests aboard, the Driftwood crew provides attentive and genuine hospitality, adding to the unparalleled West Coast adventure.
It’s also the perfect place to take a break during your fishing day, offering full lunch service and beverages to all QCL guests.
DECKHAND
Delivering first-class service with enthusiasm, our deck team shares boat/gear knowledge, cleans our boat fleet and makes a lasting impression on all QCL guests. Maintaining order onboard the boat, our team keeps the program running seamlessly.
Deckhands are vital for ensuring the vessel's cleanliness, security, and readiness to navigate or dock. They frequently act as the primary workforce carrying out physical tasks under the guidance of the Captain.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintaining general ship cleanliness
- Assisting unguided guests with all of their needs
- Catching boats and assisting guests onto the Driftwood
- Assisting the Stew with Breakfast and Lunch service as required
- Cleaning and maintain the fishing boats tied to the stern of the Driftwood
ROLE REQUIREMENTS:
- Relocating to QCL (Spring-Fall) position based in Haida Gwaii
- Previous experience in fish processing is considered an asset
- An understanding of fishing practices is considered an asset
- Pleasure Craft Operators License (PCOC) is considered an asset
- Assist with the safe docking of boats for guests and staff
- Rig fishing gear and prepare equipment for guests prior to their outings
- Provide exceptional customer service by greeting guests and assisting them with their needs
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dock area, including storage of equipment and supplies
- Ability to carry moderate-heavy loads, bend/kneel easily, and withstand being on your feet for the entirety of each shift
- Solid interpersonal skills allowing one to work effectively in a diverse and dynamic setting
- Previous experience in a similar role or environment is an advantage but not required
- Desire to learn and provide a first-class guest experience
- Passion for the West Coast and interest in the adventures that come along with working/living in a remote lodge environment
Daily Rate may vary depending on experience
