Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Personal Support Worker to support a client with moderate to advanced dementia in a private home setting.
This is not a typical PSW role, we are looking for someone who is confident, patient, and highly skilled in managing the complexities of dementia care, including behavioural and cognitive challenges. The right candidate understands that this work goes beyond routine care - it requires presence, intuition, and a calm steady approach. Job Type: Permanent, Casual
- Provide hands-on support with activities of daily living (ADLs)
- Deliver person-centered Dementia care tailored to the client's needs
- Support with behavioural management
- Use of effective redirection and de-escalation techniques
- Monitor changes in client condition and communicate with family/care team
- Provide care and companionship for individuals and families during periods of incapacitation, convalescence or family disruption
- Foster a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.
- Administer bedside and personal care to clients such as aid in ambulation, bathing, personal hygiene, and dressing and undressing
- Plan and prepare meals and special diets, and feed or assist in feeding clients
- May perform routine health-related duties
- May perform routine housekeeping duties such as laundry, washing dishes and making beds.
Education
- PSW Certification
- CPR and First Aid current and up to date is a nice to have but not mandatory.
Experience
- Minimum of 3+ years of hands on experience supporting clients with moderate to advanced dementia.
- Demonstrated experience managing responsive behaviours (e.g. agitation, wandering, sundowning)
- Experience following individualized care plans and working alongside family/care teams
- Strong understanding of person-centered dementia care approaches.
