Position Summary
If you take pride in getting the locate right, this role is built for you. As a multi-utility Locator, you'll be the first line of defence against underground damage — accurately identifying and marking buried facilities so that excavation crews can dig safely. You'll work independently, spend your days outdoors across a mix of urban and rural sites, and know that the quality of your work keeps people, infrastructure, and communities safe.
What You’ll Do
Locate & mark underground utilities
· Operate electromagnetic locating equipment and accessories to pinpoint and mark underground facilities with accuracy
· Interpret job order tickets, project sheets, blueprints, and utility maps to plan and complete each locate
· Monitor excavation activity (excavators and other equipment) to protect facilities from damage
Document your work
- Create digital locate sketches and drawings in Visio
- Augment maps with field notes and capture photos of completed locates
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date field records
Work safely and stay organized on the road
- Make health and safety the number one priority by following all policies and procedures and completing site safety inspections
- Plan efficient travel routes between urban and rural work sites
- Drive and maintain your service vehicle, and keep equipment secure, stocked, and inventoried
- Take on other related duties as the work requires
What You Bring
- Experience as a multi-utility Locator with a strong track record of accurate underground locates
- ORCGA Damage Prevention Technician (DPT) training — an asset
- Experience with locate requests, reporting, and escalations — an asset
- Valid Ontario Class G driver's licence with a clean driving record.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team
- Self-organized, comfortable managing multiple tickets and priorities at once
- Able to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather and site conditions
- Able to lift and carry up to 15 lbs
