TMSI Limited is a Nova Scotia-based marine transportation company servicing Atlantic Canada. We currently have an immediate full-time opening for a Marine Superintendent based out of our Halifax, NS office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide functional support to vessel Masters, Chief Engineers, and senior management.
- Coordinate and oversee vessel crew changes, ensuring smooth transitions.
- Ensure compliance with the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) on each vessel.
- Manage engine room data, operating parameters, and status reports.
- Manage critical parts and supplies inventories.
- Manage requisitions and procurement.
- Plan and oversee dry docks and major refits.
- Attend and chair regular shipboard meetings.
- Ensure compliance with ISM, ISPS and MLC requirements including Canadian regulations like CSA, CLC etc.
- Advertise and screen for new hires; manage crew safety training.
- Comply with industry and legislative regulations.
- Coordinate and attend regulated inspections and audits.
- Investigate and report on all incidents.
- Liaise with Class and port state officials.
- Be ready to respond to emergencies at all times.
- Willing and able to travel on short notice.
Qualifications:
- Valid Canadian Certificate of Competency.
- Minimum 5 years as a senior officer on vessels over 3000 GRT.
- Experience with electronic Planned Maintenance Systems.
- Experience with MAN 6L32/40 engines is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of ISM, ISPS, Class, and Transport Canada regulations.
- Experience coordinating dry docks and vessel maintenance.
- Ability to handle pressure and solve problems decisively.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications.
- Fluency in French is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
