Role Overview
The Land Survey Technician plays a key role in supporting construction surveying operations for infrastructure and commercial projects. Working closely with surveyors, engineers, and project teams, the incumbent is responsible for conducting field surveys, performing construction layout, collecting and processing survey data, and assisting with as-built and monitoring surveys. The position requires proficiency in modern surveying equipment and software, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work accurately in dynamic construction environments while ensuring survey data meets project specifications and quality standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Conduct engineering and construction surveys for major transportation and infrastructure projects.
· Establish, verify, and maintain horizontal and vertical survey control networks for construction and alignment activities.
· Perform precision alignment verification and geometry control for transportation, structural, and pipeline infrastructure projects.
· Operate robotic total stations, GNSS equipment, and advanced geomatics technologies tom support field survey operations.
· Monitor structural alignment, movement, deformation, and construction tolerances in active construction environments.
· Collect, analyze, validate, and process survey measurements and field data for engineering verification and quality assurance purposes.
· Support segment erection and infrastructure installation activities through survey control, alignment verification, and spatial positioning.
· Prepare survey calculations, as-built records, reports, drawings, and digital survey documentation.
· Interpret engineering drawings, project specifications, and construction layouts to support infrastructure construction activities.
· Coordinate survey activities with construction supervisors, engineers, and project personnel to support project sequencing and operational eficiency.
· Perform topographic, construction, legal, and monitoring surveys as required for project operations.
· Maintain compliance with project tolerances, survey standards, and quality control procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications
· Minimum three years of progressive experience performing, legal, engineering, construction, or infrastructure surveying.
· Previous experience on major transportation, rail, or infrastructure construction projects considered an asset.
· Experience with elevated guideway, bridge, or segmental erection alignment activities considered an asset.
· Experience using Trimble robotic total stations, GNSS systems, and advanced geomatics technologies preferred.
· Previous experience performing high-precision construction alignment and monitoring surveys considered an asset.
· Diploma or degree in Geomatics Engineering, Surveying Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related geomatics/survey technology field considered an asset.
· Experience working in active heavy civil or transportation construction environments preferred.
· Ability to work independently in fast-paced construction environments with minimal supervision.
· Previous experience as a Legal Survey Crew Chief is considered an asset.
· Experience leading or coordinating field survey crews is considered an asset
