Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Forest School Teacher to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a quality Forrest School program for children ages 3-12. This role involves planning, implementing, and assessing instructional activities that meet the diverse needs of students. The Forest School Teacher will collaborate with colleagues, parents, and the community to support student learning and development.
Responsibilities
Facilitate Outdoor Learning: Plan and lead nature-based, child-centered learning experiences that encourage curiosity, exploration, and discovery in an outdoor setting.
Supervise and Ensure Safety: Maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging forest learning environment, adhering to risk assessment protocols and outdoor safety guidelines.
Incorporate Montessori & Play-Based Learning: Use Montessori and emergent curriculum approaches to support children's development through hands-on, experiential learning in nature.
Foster Environmental Stewardship: Instill a love and respect for nature by guiding children in activities like gardening, wildlife observation, sustainable practices, and seasonal changes.
Support Social-Emotional Growth: Encourage teamwork, problem-solving, and resilience through outdoor play and cooperative learning experiences.
Observe, Document & Communicate: Regularly assess children’s learning and development through observations, documentation, and communication with families and colleagues.
Adapt to Outdoor Conditions: Be prepared to teach in all weather conditions while modeling adaptability and a positive attitude in nature-based learning.
Requirements
- Training or experience working in a Forest School setting
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to create engaging lesson plans tailored to diverse learning styles.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for teaching children.
- ECE certification is highly desirable, though not a requirement.
