Position Summary:
The Picker (Metal Sorter/General Labourer) is responsible for sorting through scrap metal or plastic according to grade and size. This is a full-time, permanent, non-exempt position.
Location: Mitchell Island, Richmond, BC
Salary: $25.27 per hour
Department: Operations
Reports To: Operations Department Supervisors/Managers
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Key Responsibilities
- Remove metal/plastic from sorting table, hand-truck, or conveyor by sight
- Keep the work area clean
- May be assigned to operate or repair simple mechanical equipment
- Perform other duties or special projects as assigned
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or GED preferred
Experience:
- 1–3 months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Manufacturing or production associate experience considered an asset
- Forklift certification is an asset
Skills:
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and plan ahead
- Logical thinking and problem-solving
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
Physical Requirements:
- Must have own vehicle to commute to site
- Ability to stand, lift, and move objects regularly (25 lbs frequently; up to 50 lbs often; up to 100 lbs with assistance)
- Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and criminal background check
- Comfortable wearing full PPE (uniform, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hard hat, earplugs, gloves)
- Must be willing to work afternoon/evening shift
Work Conditions:
- Regular exposure to wet/humid conditions, moving parts, outdoor weather, and vibration
- Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles
- Loud noise environment
