Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Lead Maintenance Mechanic to join our manufacturing team in Markham. Reporting to the Operations Site Manager, you will lead the maintenance department while remaining actively involved in equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated leader with experience in food manufacturing or packaging who enjoys working in a fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and support the maintenance team to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Develop and coordinate preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance schedules.
- Work closely with the Maintenance Planner to source parts and optimize maintenance planning.
- Assign maintenance tasks, monitor technician performance, and provide coaching.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting, repairs, and servicing of production equipment.
- Conduct root cause analysis to reduce equipment downtime and improve reliability.
- Collaborate with Operations to maximize production uptime and efficiency.
- Coordinate work performed by external contractors, including electricians, plumbers, and other service providers.
- Inspect and maintain building systems, including HVAC, electrical, heating, ventilation, and mechanical systems.
- Assist with maintenance budgeting by prioritizing repairs and controlling costs.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the maintenance department.
- Lead daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance meetings.
- Monitor labour hours and maintenance performance.
- Track and report maintenance Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and food safety requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Lead Maintenance Mechanic, Maintenance Supervisor, or similar leadership role in a food manufacturing or packaging environment.
- Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills with industrial production equipment.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and equipment reliability.
- Experience maintaining building systems, including HVAC, electrical, ventilation, and mechanical systems.
- Trade certification is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of Occupational Health & Safety regulations and food manufacturing standards.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and communication skills.
- Proven leadership and team development abilities.
Required Skills
- Experience with CMMS, SAP, Nulogy, or other maintenance management/ERP systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
