Seasonal, Contract Position (On-Site) – Winter 2026/2027
The Township of Tay, located on the vibrant, sunset shores of Georgian Bay, is seeking individuals to join #TeamTay for Winter 2026/2027 (early November to early April) in the role of Operator/Labourer 1. This opportunity is for existing vacancies, and the ideal candidates are adaptable and committed to making a positive impact both within the organization and across the community.
Reporting to the Supervisor of Operational Services, the Operator/Labourer 1 operates equipment and vehicles, and performs functions in the construction and maintenance of the Municipality's roads, parks, and facilities, as well as capital works, in compliance with applicable legislation and Township standards.
The starting pay rate for this Seasonal, Contract position is $26.25 per hour with a regular schedule of 80 hours per two-week pay period. Position is subject to variable days and hours of work. Working conditions include exposure to severe inclement weather, as well as driving in winter weather for extended periods, as required.
Key Qualifications
- Class ‘G’ Driver's Licence in good standing, and a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract.
- OSSD (Ontario Secondary School Diploma) or equivalent.
- Knowledge of the operation of small and heavy equipment acquired through practical experience. Related, progressive work experience in municipal operations involving core municipal infrastructure (e.g., roads, bridges, culverts, parks, and facilities) is considered an asset.
- Written and verbal communication skills, and technical skills, with ability to problem solve.
- Ability to exercise attention to detail and auditory, mental, and visual concentration and alertness to ensure the safety of others; ability to work independently in a safe, effective, and efficient manner.
- Repetitive duties requiring sustained concentration and alertness during prolonged periods of vehicle or equipment operation.
- Position requires a satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check provided via the Ontario Provincial Police.
