We are a fast-paced, inclusive, and purpose-driven café that takes pride in crafting exceptional drinks, food, and artisan bread while fostering a welcoming, supportive environment for both our customers and our team.
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Bread Baker to support our daily bread production. This is a hands-on role focused on baking, shaping, and producing high-quality breads—particularly sourdough—for both café service and wholesale customers.
This role requires someone who is detail-oriented, takes pride in their craft, and is comfortable working early mornings.
Key Responsibilities
1. Bread Production
- Prepare, mix, shape, and bake a variety of breads, including sourdough
- Follow established recipes and production schedules to ensure consistency
- Monitor fermentation, proofing, and baking processes to achieve high-quality results
- Ensure all products meet Neighbourly Coffee’s standards for quality and presentation
2. Daily Operations
- Support daily production for café and wholesale needs
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace
- Assist with scaling recipes and preparing ingredients
- Work collaboratively with the kitchen and bread team
3. Product Quality
- Maintain consistency in shaping, scoring, and baking
- Monitor dough health and adjust as needed based on conditions
- Communicate any issues with product quality or production
4. Inventory & Prep Support
- Assist with ingredient preparation and basic inventory tracking
- Follow FIFO practices and help reduce waste
- Notify leadership of low stock or supply needs
5. Health & Safety
- Follow all food safety and sanitation standards
- Maintain cleanliness of equipment and workstations
- Adhere to safe work practices at all times
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum 1–2 years of bread baking experience preferred
- Experience with sourdough fermentation and artisan bread techniques
- Ability to shape and handle dough with consistency and care
- Strong attention to detail and time management
- Ability to work early mornings (starting as early as 4–5am)
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Team-oriented with a positive and respectful attitude
