Position Summary:
The Dental Laboratory Technician is responsible for fabricating, repairing, and modifying a variety of dental appliances and restorations while maintaining the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and efficiency. The successful candidate will work closely with clinicians across Huron Dental Group to ensure restorations meet prescribed specifications and patient needs.
This role is ideal for an experienced technician who takes pride in producing high-quality dental prosthetics and restorations while working collaboratively with our dentists and clinical teams to ensure outstanding patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fabricate and repair dental prosthetics including crowns, bridges, dentures, implant restorations, night guards, retainers, and other removable and fixed appliances.
- Prepare, pour, trim, and articulate dental models.
- Design and manufacture restorations using traditional laboratory techniques and digital CAD/CAM technology where applicable.
- Perform finishing, polishing, characterization, and quality control of completed restorations.
- Interpret prescriptions and collaborate with dentists regarding case requirements and restoration design.
- Maintain accurate documentation of laboratory cases and production timelines.
- Ensure all work meets company quality standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and perform routine maintenance as required.
- Manage inventory of laboratory materials and notify management of supply requirements.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control (IPAC) protocols and maintain a clean, organized laboratory environment.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory efficiency and service quality.
- Provide technical guidance and support to clinical teams regarding laboratory procedures and case planning.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a Dental Laboratory Technology program or equivalent education and experience.
- Previous experience working as a Dental Laboratory Technician.
- Strong knowledge of removable and fixed prosthetics.
- Experience with digital dentistry and CAD/CAM workflows is considered a strong asset.
- Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple cases while meeting deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency with digital laboratory software is an asset.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with implant restorations.
- Experience with digital scanners and 3D printing technology.
- Knowledge of modern dental materials including zirconia, lithium disilicate, ceramics, acrylics, and composites.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily based at Huron Dental Group's centralized laboratory in Sarnia, Ontario.
- Occasional travel to affiliated clinic locations across Southwestern Ontario may be required for consultations, training, equipment support, or operational needs.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing detailed laboratory work.
- Manual dexterity and visual precision are essential for the role.
