We are looking for a versatile professional to manage and prepare steel fabrication projects. The candidate will be responsible for estimating new projects, producing drawings, and managing projects from start to finish. In addition, they will oversee all projects to ensure coordination, timetable, and profitability. The candidate must have a solid understanding of CWB processes and requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Estimation
- Review drawings, specifications, and addenda to confirm scope and identify contractual risks
- Perform quantity take-offs and request, evaluate, and compare supplier/subcontractor pricing
- Prepare project material lists for purchasing and planning
- Develop detailed estimates (direct/indirect costs, labour, equipment, and margins)
Drafting & Detailing
- Prepare shop drawings and erection plans using industry software (e.g., AutoCAD)
- Create and revise drawings to align with quoted scope and project specifications
- Apply correct weld symbols and requirements in accordance with CSA W59 and company CWB data sheets
Project Management
- Develop and maintain fabrication schedules to meet project deadlines
- Source and order materials and components to meet production milestones and project-specific CWB/CSA requirements
- Serve as the main liaison between the shop manage RFIs and change orders
- Coordinate project closeout documentation
- Support quality records by maintaining welder qualifications, WPS/WPQR documentation, and CWB data sheets
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 3–5+ years in the steel fabrication industry with a focus on both office and technical roles.
- CWB Knowledge: Solid understanding of CSA W47.1 and W59 standards. Experience with welding procedures and inspector coordination is a major asset.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in CAD/3D modeling software and MS Excel.
- Education: T.S.S., C.E.T., or equivalent experience in structural steel/metal fabrication.
