Role Summary
Reporting to the Engineering Leadership Team, this role is responsible for maintaining all pool and aquatic environments to the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, and guest satisfaction.
This position plays a key role in delivering a seamless luxury resort experience by ensuring all pool facilities operate efficiently and reflect JW Marriott and LQA (Leading Quality Assurance) standards. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong attention to detail, commitment to safety, and a guest-first mindset in all interactions and maintenance practices.
Accountabilities
- Perform maintenance and repairs on swimming pool and hot tub systems, including heaters, filters, pumps, motors, cleaning systems, automatic controls, and basic electrical components
- Monitor and maintain chlorine and pH levels in accordance with public health regulations and luxury resort standards
- Clean and maintain pool areas, including sweeping, vacuuming, and maintaining gutters, pool walls, and floors
- Inspect gauges and ensure proper water levels are consistently maintained
- Accurately record and track chemical levels and maintenance logs in compliance with operational and regulatory requirements
- Ensure aquatic areas are maintained to the highest cleanliness and presentation standards, including performing minor repairs to pool decks as required
- Maintain filtration systems, including sand filter cleaning, backwashing, and strainer maintenance
- Test and inspect all pool safety equipment to ensure full functionality and compliance
- Support seasonal opening and closing of pools and hot tubs, including winterization procedures and maintaining safe access (e.g., 3-foot cleared walkways)
- Deliver exceptional guest service by acknowledging all guests with eye contact, a warm smile, and a professional greeting, using guest names when possible
- Ensure compliance with all pool regulations, safety standards, and JW Marriott/LQA expectations for cleanliness and presentation
- Actively participate in the resort’s health and safety program and promote a safe working environment
- Adhere to environmental sustainability programs and policies
- Utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriately based on tasks and safety requirements
- Assist the Engineering team with snow removal and other operational needs across the resort as required
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall resort operations
Requirements
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification considered an asset; required within 90 days of employment
- WHMIS certification required
- Standard First Aid certification (including CPR-C and AED awareness) preferred
- Previous experience in hotel engineering, facilities maintenance, or building operations required
- Strong understanding of safety standards, chemical handling, and aquatic system maintenance
- Ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of quality and safety
- Commitment to delivering exceptional guest service in a luxury resort environment
Working Conditions
- Ability to work in a variety of environments, including hot, humid, and cold conditions
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 50 pounds without assistance
- Capable of standing, walking, bending, and working for extended periods or entire shifts
- Ability to work in confined, elevated, or restricted spaces
- Comfortable navigating sloped, uneven, or slippery surfaces safely
