Raise is currently hiring a Distribution Standards - Engineer on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada
Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.
Description
The Distribution Standards team supports communities across British Columbia from our Burnaby (Edmonds) office. Our clients group is made up of a skilled and diverse set of engineering professionals who develop construction standards and select, specify, and approve equipment. The team also works closely with Operations, supporting failure investigations and providing engineering expertise to both internal and external engineers and designers so that the distribution system is operated, maintained, repaired, upgraded, replaced, and expanded with a strong focus on safety.
Our clients teams are also driving forward the modernization of standards delivery, including adopting advanced design tools and exploring AI-enabled workflows to improve how we develop and deliver engineering standards. Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain standards — Create, revise, and update construction, design, and commissioning standards for 's Distribution System within your team's area of expertise.

Equipment evaluation and approval — Plan and conduct field trials, assess new equipment and technologies, and collaborate with field crews and vendors to approve equipment for system-wide use.

Provide technical expertise — Serve as a subject matter resource to Distribution Engineering, Distribution Design, Asset Planning, and Operations teams, offering guidance on standards interpretation, equipment application, and complex technical issues within your team's specialty.

Investigate and resolve engineering challenges — Analyze and resolve a range of complex and unique engineering problems, including failure investigations and safety-related assessments.

Stakeholder engagement — Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to build consensus, encourage innovation, and develop engineering solutions that prioritize safety, environmental protection, cost-effectiveness, and the needs of employees and the public.

Support modernization initiatives — Contribute to the advancement of standards development processes, including adoption of modern engineering design tools and AI-assisted workflows.

Build professional relationships — Cultivate strong relationships with colleagues, clients, and cross-functional teams to set priorities, evaluate work impacts, and address concerns.

Work with independence — Operate within broad objectives and guidelines, exercising sound engineering judgment and consulting your manager on critical or high-impact projects
Qualifications
-
8+ years of relevant engineering experience with Practical experience conducting failure investigations, resolving complex engineering challenges, and performing safety-related assessments.

Demonstrated experience with overhead and underground electric utility distribution systems operating at voltages up to 35 kV.

Experience in any of the following specialized areas is considered a strong asset:

Systems, Automation, and Protection: Distribution automation, medium voltage electrical equipment, protection and control systems, SCADA, or relaying technologies.

Customer Electrical Services: Customer connection standards, metering, service entrance requirements, or the interface between utility and customer-owned systems.

Overhead and Underground Standards: Deep technical familiarity with distribution lines, equipment, and utility standards.
Digital Tools & Drafting: Background in 3D modeling, computer-aided standards drafting for a utility, and familiarity with AutoCAD, Inventor, Microstation, or Solidworks workflows.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain technical options, present solutions to diverse audiences, and tailor communication styles to different technical levels.

Proven ability in leadership, teamwork, relationship management, and interpersonal skills.

Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to apply practical knowledge and sound judgment to effectively resolve complex issues.

Education and Certifications
-
A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from a recognized or accredited university. Candidates with degrees in other engineering disciplines may be considered where substantial relevant experience can be demonstrated.

Relevant engineering experience

P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired

- Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
