The Opportunity
PLG is seeking a motivated, self-starting Biologist to join our growing environmental team. This position is ideal for an environmental professional with approximately 1–5 years of consulting experience who enjoys tackling new challenges, thinking critically, working both independently and as part of a collaborative team, and developing expertise across a broad range of environmental projects. We welcome applications from individuals currently working on contract, in seasonal positions, or looking to transition into a permanent consulting role.
Reporting directly to the Lead Biologist, you will contribute to a diverse mix of field and office-based projects throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. No two weeks are the same, you may be completing stream assessments one day, preparing technical reports the next, supporting construction monitoring, or assisting clients through the environmental permitting process.
This position is well suited to someone who is highly organized, takes initiative, enjoys problem solving, and has a passion for producing high-quality technical work.
Key Responsibilities
· Complete stream assessments, stream delineations, and watercourse determinations.
· Prepare Riparian Areas Protection Regulation (RAPR) assessments and reports.
· Prepare technical reports, environmental assessments, technical memoranda, and regulatory submissions.
· Assist with Water Sustainability Act (WSA) notifications, approvals, and permitting.
· Support environmental development permit applications and municipal environmental reviews.
· Conduct vegetation inventories, habitat assessments, and environmental baseline studies.
· Complete environmental monitoring during construction, including erosion and sediment control inspections.
· Participate in fish salvages, amphibian salvages, bird nest surveys, and wildlife assessments.
· Assist with restoration planning, monitoring programs, and environmental compliance.
· Work directly with senior staff while progressively taking ownership of projects and client files.
Qualifications
Required:
· Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related discipline.
· Approximately 1–5 years of environmental consulting experience in British Columbia.
· Exceptional written communication skills with demonstrated ability to prepare professional technical reports.
· Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
· Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team.
· Willingness to work both in the field and the office, with occasional early mornings and travel throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley.
· Valid unrestricted Class 5 Driver's Licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
Experience with one or more of the following would be considered an asset:
· RAPR assessments and reporting.
· WSA notifications, permitting, or approvals.
· Stream determinations, stream delineations, and watercourse classification assessments.
· Municipal environmental development permit applications (DPs/WPDPs/NEDPs).
· Fisheries assessments, fish salvage, amphibian salvage, or bird nest surveys.
· Environmental monitoring during construction, including erosion and sediment control.
· Restoration planning, environmental monitoring, or habitat enhancement projects.
· Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the College of Applied Biology.
