Afiya Spine & Pain Institute is a rapid access, multidisciplinary spine, sport, and pain management practice with locations in Toronto and Hamilton. Our Hamilton clinic, located at 554 John Street North, is an academically affiliated, growing interventional pain centre. We pride ourselves on delivering evidence based, image guided, multimodal interventional pain management within a comprehensive, interdisciplinary model of care.
Our team combines procedural based pain management, medication management, physiotherapy, and psychological care to address the full scope of chronic pain. As our Hamilton practice continues to grow, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Physician Assistant to join our clinical team and contribute meaningfully to patient care and the ongoing development of the clinic.
Position Overview
The Physician Assistant will work in close collaboration with our interventional pain physicians and broader interdisciplinary team. The role spans clinical, procedural, and administrative responsibilities, offering a rare combination of variety, autonomy, and exposure to advanced interventional pain medicine.
The successful candidate will play an integral part in supporting both clinical operations and the strategic growth of the clinic.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Assessment
- Conduct comprehensive intake assessments for new and returning patients, including history taking, physical examination, and chart review.
- Formulate and document differential diagnoses and recommended management plans in collaboration with the supervising physician.
- Provide patient education on diagnoses, treatment options, expected outcomes, and risks.
Clinic Based Interventions
- Assist with and, where appropriate, perform image guided interventional procedures under physician supervision.
- Support procedural workflow including pre procedure assessment, informed consent, intraprocedure assistance, and post procedure monitoring and follow up.
- Contribute to multimodal pain management planning, including pharmacologic, interventional, and adjunctive strategies.
Administrative and Operational Support
- Complete timely and accurate clinical documentation, consult letters, and procedural notes.
- Support quality improvement, workflow optimization, and clinic growth initiatives.
- Coordinate with referring physicians, allied health providers, and academic partners to facilitate interdisciplinary care.
- Participate in academic activities, teaching, and ongoing professional development as opportunities arise.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program (CMA accredited or equivalent).
- Eligible for or holds certification with the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA /CCPA).
- Eligible for registration in Ontario where applicable, and in good standing with relevant regulatory bodies.
- Clinical experience in pain medicine, interventional procedures, anesthesia, physiatry, orthopaedics, or a related field is considered a strong asset.
- Strong clinical reasoning, procedural aptitude, and comfort working in a fast paced, procedure driven environment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills.
- Commitment to evidence based practice and interdisciplinary collaboration.
