ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Supervisor, Field Locates, a Damage Prevention Technician (DPT) is responsible for accurately locating, marking, and documenting underground utilities to support safe excavation activities. The DPT uses approved locating equipment, produces clear sketches and records, communicates with requesters, and manages daily locate assignments to keep field operations efficient. By following safety protocols and meeting operational and quality standards, the DPT helps prevent damage to critical infrastructure and ensures consistent, reliable service delivery.
RESPONSIBLITIES
Operational Tasks

Complete utility locates accurately and efficiently.

Use company-provided equipment to identify underground utilities, mark the area, and create drawings of located services.

Operate electronic locating devices, including receiver wands and transmitters, to verify utilities such as gas, phone, and fiber-optic cables.

Mark utility lines using spray paint or coloured flags in accordance with industry standards.

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Customer Interaction

Communicate professionally with customers on-site to explain markings, answer questions, and ensure understanding of locate results.

Address and resolve customer concerns related to locate activities.

Represent the company positively through courteous, clear, and respectful interactions.
Documentation & Reporting

Prepare accurate reports and documentation verifying all marked utilities.

Create clear drawings and sketches of located areas and underground services.

Maintain complete and organized records in accordance with company standards.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Work in full compliance with all applicable health, safety, and environmental legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations, and PVS Contractors Inc.’s policies and procedures.
Follow safe work practices and contribute to maintaining a safe work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Post‑secondary education in a discipline relevant to the job function, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Work Experience
-
Experience performing utility locates or working in telecommunications, construction, or underground infrastructure is preferred.

Experience handling customer issues professionally.

Experience working under health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Licenses & Background Checks

Satisfactory driving record.
