Senior woodworking professional who balances hands-on fabrication of custom cabinetry with the supervision of shop staff. They oversee daily production, ensure quality control, manage material inventory, and mentor junior craftsmen to meet project deadlines and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Production & Workflow Management: Coordinate daily production schedules, assign tasks to shop staff, and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Quality Assurance: Interpret complex architectural/shop drawings and perform quality inspections to ensure all millwork meets high-end residential or commercial standards.
- Team Leadership: Mentor, train, and supervise apprentices and junior cabinet makers.
- Shop Operations: Manage inventory, track material usage, and ensure all woodworking machinery (e.g., CNCs, edge banders, table saws) is safely operated and maintained.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce workplace health and safety (OHS) protocols on the production floor.
Core Qualifications
- Experience: 5 to 10+ years of hands-on experience in custom cabinetry, architectural millwork, and woodworking.
- Technical Skills: High proficiency in reading blueprints, shop drawings, and CAD/CAM software. Expertise in safely operating all standard woodshop machinery and hand tools.
- Leadership: Proven ability to manage teams, troubleshoot technical issues, and manage client expectations.
- Certifications: A Red Seal certification in Cabinetmaking or relevant AWMAC (Architectural Woodwork Manufacturers Association of Canada) experience is highly valued by local employers.
