Railcar Mechanic
We’re looking for a motivated and safety-focused Railcar Mechanic to join our team. In this role, you’ll play a key part in keeping freight equipment operating safely and efficiently. What You’ll Do
- Inspect, maintain, and repair freight cars in accordance with industry and regulatory standards
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on trucks, underframes, braking systems, draft systems, and safety appliances
- Diagnose mechanical issues and complete repairs using a variety of tools and techniques
- Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals to plan and complete work
- Complete required documentation including inspection records, repair reports, and regulatory forms
- Carry out welding and cutting tasks using SMAW, GMAW, oxy-fuel, and plasma-arc equipment
- Safely operate hand, power, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools
- Work on railcars in shop and field environments, including on, under, and around equipment
What You Bring
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with heavy equipment or in a mechanical role
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
- Ability to read and understand technical documents, manuals, and safety regulations
- Valid driver’s license (commercial license considered an asset)
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to safe work practices
Working Environment
- Rail operations run 24/7, and this role requires flexibility for shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
- Physically active role requiring the ability to work in various positions and environments
Safety & Pre-Employment Requirements
This is a safety-sensitive position. Successful candidates will be required to complete:
- Pre-employment medical assessment (including vision and hearing)

- Background checks including criminal history, education, and driver’s abstract

- Railway: 5 years (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
- Class G Licence (required)
- Railcar Mechainic Training (preferred)
- DZ Driving Licence (preferred)
