Technical Director – Contract Position
About the Role
The Technical Director will play a key leadership role in shaping the future of soccer programming within the Kootenay South region. KSYSA is seeking an individual who is passionate about player and coach development, values community engagement, and is committed to fostering a positive, inclusive, and development-focused soccer environment. The Technical Director will lead the development of KSYSA’s 2027 Technical Plan.
Working closely with the KSYSA Board, staff, volunteers, and community partners, the Technical Director will help deliver on the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of KSYSA through high-quality recreational, developmental, and competitive soccer programming. The Technical Director will support athlete development pathways, coach education, grassroots participation, and community engagement in alignment with BC Soccer and Canada Soccer standards.
Contract Details
Term: Approximately one year, ending August 2027, with potential for extension based on Board approval, funding availability and contract performance.
Contract Value: Maximum CAD $26,000 annually, inclusive of local travel and related expenses.
Service Location: Trail, Castlegar, Fruitvale, Rossland and surrounding communities. This contract requires you to work varied hours throughout the year, in cadence with the soccer season, estimated amount of work per week to be 10–20 hours.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development and Implementation
- Design and implement recreational, developmental, and competitive soccer programming.
- Establish player development pathways for varying age groups and skill levels.
- Ensure programming aligns with Long-Term Player Development principles.
- Develop and implement KSYSA’s 2027 Technical Plan.
- Organize and deliver a minimum of two (2) player development camps annually.
- Attend pre-determined tournaments.
Coaching and Player Development
- Recruit, mentor, and support coaches in alignment with club standards.
- Monitor coaching certifications and Criminal Record Checks.
- Organize player evaluations, assessments, and development opportunities.
- Support player progression and talent identification.
Community and Club Engagement
- Build relationships with schools, community organizations, and soccer partners.
- Support grassroots soccer initiatives and community events.
- Attend Board meetings.
- Maintain clear communication regarding technical decisions with players, parents, coaches, and volunteers, and when needed provide feedback and conflict resolution (in alignment with the Board and respective committees).
- Assist with resource management, reporting, and program planning.
- As requested, participate in the discipline committee and support the Board in communicating feedback to other associations.
Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Successfully complete and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Hold a minimum valid Canada Soccer C Licence (or recognized equivalent certification, licence in progress may be considered) in good standing.
Preference may be given to those with:
● Technical Director Diploma through BC Soccer (or equivalent recognized diploma).
● Technical Leadership Diploma through Canada Soccer (or equivalent recognized diploma).
● Children’s Diploma through Canada Soccer (or equivalent recognized diploma).
● Experience developing programming for a Community Soccer Club, community recreation office, Regional District, or Provincial Sport Organization.
● Experience creating Program Operational or Technical Plans.
● Learning Facilitator experience and certification.
● Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
● Experience leading teams of volunteers.
● Experience working with a variety of diverse stakeholders and partners.
● Understanding of long-term athlete development.
