Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.
Position Overview:
Successful candidate will measure mosquito wings using a Leica dissecting microscope with imaging software and will enter resulting data into an Excel spreadsheet database.
Duties:
- Measure mosquito wings and enter resulting data into spreadsheet.
- Rear larval mosquitoes under the direction of the researcher.
Qualifications:
- BIOL-3703 (Ectoparasitology).
- Current familiarity with Leica dissecting microscope and associated imaging software and data capture, experience removing mosquito wings from dried specimens and measuring wing length according to established protocol, entering data into mosquito wing length Excel database.
- Ability to work unsupervised in a small lab, sitting at a microscope for extended periods.
Condition(s) of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
The period of work will be from June 30, 2026 - August 7, 2026 and the estimated total hours of work will be 40-60 hours.
