Medicine Hat Recovery Centre provides a 6-bed Withdrawal Management Program and a 12-bed Intensive Bed-Based Addiction Treatment service for individuals with substance use and/or co-occurring mental health concerns. We are seeking a motivated, team-focused leader for the temporary role of Assistant Head Nurse (AHN). The AHN provides clinical leadership, direction, and support to staff, clients, and families, promoting a collaborative environment and high standards of care. This role requires strong knowledge of addiction and mental health programming and the ability to work effectively with internal teams and community partners. Key responsibilities include coordinating triage and daily workload, assessing client suitability, facilitating case consultations, and providing mentorship, education, and support to staff. The AHN also identifies process gaps, addresses risk management issues, and supports quality improvement initiatives. Strong clinical, organizational, and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work with a diverse client population and multidisciplinary teams.
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Must have recent experience (within the last 2 years) working at a bed-based treatment program and/or a withdrawal management unit.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Connect Care. Valid Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certificate. At least 3 years' experience working within Addiction and Mental Health Services.
