SRP Projects is seeking a skilled, reliable Pipe Layer to join our underground construction team. With a strong history of delivering quality civil and utility infrastructure across Alberta, SRP Projects specializes in sewer, water, storm, and deep services work that demands accuracy, safety, and teamwork.
The ideal candidate will bring 5+ years of hands-on pipe laying experience in municipal and civil environments and be fully confident working in and around trenches. This role involves installing and connecting underground piping systems according to blueprints, line, and grade, while supporting safe excavation and trench operations.
Candidates will complete a practical skills test during the interview (pipe cutting, fitting, trench awareness, grade/line understanding, and tool handling) to confirm competency.
Duties
- Read and interpret blueprints, grade sheets, elevations, and project specifications to complete accurate pipe installation.
- Install sewer, water, storm, and service connections in accordance with SRP Projects standards and municipal specifications.
- Cut, prep, and fit pipe (PVC, HDPE, concrete, ductile iron, etc.) to required lengths and tolerances.
- Use pipe lasers, levels, and measuring tools to ensure precise line and grade.
- Assist equipment operators by guiding trenching, bedding, pipe placement, and backfill operations.
- Work in trenches to set pipe, check grade, install fittings, and confirm alignment.
- Ensure trench bottoms are properly prepared (bedding, shaping, moisture/compaction requirements).
- Install fittings, couplers, manholes, catch basins, valves, hydrants, and related structures.
- Perform trench work including safe entry/exit, bedding preparation, material placement, and cleanup.
- Conduct basic checks/inspections on installed pipe to verify alignment, connections, and workmanship.
- Maintain a clean and safe job site by following SRP Projects safety policies, ground disturbance requirements, and trench safety procedures.
- Work efficiently with the crew to meet daily production goals and project timelines.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of experience as a Pipe Layer on sewer, water, storm, or underground civil projects.
- Strong knowledge of municipal underground utility installation methods and materials.
- Proven ability to read and work from grade stakes, elevations, and blueprint layouts.
- Skilled in pipe cutting, fitting, rigging guidance, and installation best practices.
- Extensive experience working in trenches and understanding trench construction standards.
- Strong understanding of trench safety, including shoring, sloping/benching, spoil pile placement, and hazard recognition.
- Physically fit and able to lift 50+ lbs, work in varying weather, and perform labour-intensive tasks.
- Reliable attendance, strong work ethic, and ability to work as part of a tight crew.
- Class 5 License required.
