non-binary people.
Description
Women's Health in Women's Hands is a Community Health Centre that provides culturally
competent, relevant, and responsive primary healthcare to racialized women, trans and non
binary clients from the African, Black, Caribbean, Latin American and South Asian
communities in Toronto and surrounding municipalities. We are changemakers engaged in
knowledge transfer and exchange, research, capacity building and advocacy within and
across multiple systems in service of our vision.
The Opportunity
Women’s Health in Women’s Hands is governed by a Policy Board of 10 Board Directors who
are representative of racialized women, trans and non-binary people from the African, Black,
Caribbean, Latin American and South Asian communities. Our Board is currently seeking two
candidates with governance experience and with one or more of the following areas of
expertise or identity:
- Community health care / health sector experience is an asset
- Legal: Employment Law is an asset
- Finance: Accounting background (financial designation, such as CPA or an equivalent
degree or diploma) to sit on and chair our finance committee
- Fundraising: particularly in major gifts, donor cultivation, and/or capital campaigns
- Transgender women, non-binary and other non-conforming gender identities and
expression
- Representatives from Latin American communities

- Expense Reimbursement: Board Directors are entitled to reimbursement for public
transit or taxi fare to and from Board or Committee meetings, as well as childcare
support while attending in person meetings.
Board Expectations
- Prepare for and attend Board meetings (on the Second Wednesday evening of every
other month, currently virtual)
- Participate on at least one Board Committee, prepare for and attend monthly meeting
(currently virtual).
- Participate and attend the following:
o One day-long planning session/development a year
o Annual General Meeting in September, and
o Onboarding and orientation
o Support Board decisions once they are made
o Work candidly, collaboratively, respectfully and efficiently with colleagues
A list of qualified candidates may be established and considered for future Board volunteer
opportunities.
