Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Pharmacy Assistant to support pharmacy operations and contribute to safe, efficient patient care. In this role, you will work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to assist with medication preparation, data entry, inventory management, customer service, and administrative tasks while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist customers at the front counter, process transactions, and resolve routine customer concerns in a friendly, professional manner.
- Assist pharmacists with the preparation, packaging, labeling, and distribution of medications, in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Perform accurate data entry of prescription information, patient profiles, and inventory records using pharmacy management system (Kroll).
- Answer and manage incoming phone calls, and respond to non-clinical patient inquiries, routing medication-related questions to the pharmacist as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in compliance with privacy, documentation, and regulatory standards.
- Manage pharmacy inventory by ordering, receiving, checking, stocking, and rotating medications and supplies.
- Ensure adherence to pharmacy policies, infection control practices, and applicable federal, provincial, and institutional regulations.
- Assist with routine pharmacy operations, including cleaning, organizing, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
- Collaborate effectively with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to support timely and accurate medication distribution and positive patient outcomes.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Assistant or in a comparable pharmacy or healthcare support role.
- Experience with Kroll pharmacy software is preferred. Candidates without Kroll experience should be comfortable learning new pharmacy software quickly.
- Working knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical terminology, or a strong willingness to learn.
- Strong customer service skills, including comfort with transactions, front-counter interactions, and resolving customer concerns professionally.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact professionally with patients, pharmacists, and healthcare staff.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with pharmacy workflows; understanding of medication administration processes is considered an asset (administration performed only by authorized personnel).
- Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and high standards of service within a hospital or clinical setting.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
