Position Overview
Century AV is looking for an experienced Commercial AV Installer with a strong background in fixed audiovisual systems integration.
This is a hands-on field installation position focused on permanently installed commercial AV systems. The work includes pulling and terminating low-voltage cabling, mounting displays and projectors, installing speakers and microphones, building AV racks, reading drawings, testing systems, and supporting commissioning.
This is not a live events, broadcast, studio production, stagehand, DJ, desktop support, or general IT position.
Candidates must have direct experience installing commercial AV systems in corporate, educational, institutional, construction, or similar environments. Live event or broadcast experience alone does not meet the requirements of this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial AV Installation
- Install permanently mounted displays, projectors, projection screens, speakers, microphones, cameras, touch panels, control processors, DSPs, and other AV equipment
- Install display mounts, projector mounts, speaker brackets, equipment racks, and related hardware
- Pull, terminate, test, and label AV and low-voltage cabling
- Work with CAT6 and CAT6A, RG6, 22/2, 22/4, speaker wire, shielded cable, balanced audio, XLR, and other common AV cabling
- Perform basic soldering when required
- Build, dress, secure, and label AV equipment racks
- Install equipment according to approved drawings, scope documents, and manufacturer requirements
- Maintain clean cable management and professional installation standards
- Assist with system testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and client handover
- Technical Responsibilities
- Read and interpret AV schematics, line diagrams, floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, and rack elevations
- Understand audio, video, control, USB, and network signal flow
- Identify installation issues and communicate them clearly to the Project Manager / Installation Manager
- Perform basic network-related tasks involving LAN connections, PoE, IP addressing, and point-to-point wireless equipment
- Work with common AV technologies and standards, including HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C, HDBaseT, Dante, and AV-over-IP systems
- Use cable testers, multimeters, network testers, and other installation tools
- Coordinate professionally with clients, general contractors, electricians, IT teams, and other trades
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of direct, hands-on commercial AV installation experience
- Experience working for an AV integrator or installing fixed AV systems in commercial or construction environments
- Experience pulling and terminating low-voltage cabling
- Experience mounting displays, projectors, speakers, cameras, and other professional AV equipment
- Experience building and dressing AV racks
- Ability to read AV system drawings and understand signal flow
- Strong craftsmanship and attention to detail
- Ability to troubleshoot installation and connectivity issues
- Ability to work efficiently in active construction sites and client-occupied spaces
- Ability to consistently and safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds or 23 kilograms
- Comfortable working from ladders and powered lifts
- Valid Working at Heights certification
- Valid Ontario G-class driver’s licence with a clean driving abstract
- Must be eligible to operate company vehicles under the company’s insurance policy
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Professional communication and teamwork skills
