VOLUNTEER BOARD MEMBER - TREASURER
We are seeking a dedicated Volunteer Board Member to serve as Treasurer.
Reasonable time availability (2-3 hours per month)
Central Alberta Crime Prevention Centre (CACPC)
We are a non-profit charity dedicated to proactive crime prevention, offering education, resources, and support to communities across Alberta. We assist residents impacted by crime, provide CPTED training and implement crime reduction initiatives to enhance community safety. We educate and collaborate with residents to proactively address crime and we empower citizens to protect themselves against property crime and fraud/scams.
In addition to programs and services offered by CACPC, the Centre serves as a unique crime prevention hub that brings together multiple crime prevention programs to network for community safety. Programs are able to access space and resources to operate, as well as opportunities to network and work together in ways that might not otherwise be possible. Each program operates independently with their own volunteers, Boards, programs & events.
Responsibilities – Treasurer Role
- Attend and participate in 8-10 board meetings per year, remotely or in-person when applicable.
- Oversee financial records, transactions, reporting, budgeting, and compliance to support the Society’s financial integrity.
- Provide regular financial updates to the Board, including financial statements, budget reports, fundraising updates, bank balances, and cash flow information.
- Attend Board meetings and present financial reports and recommendations as needed.
- Review receipts, disbursements, cheques, payroll, and other financial transactions.
- Monitor financial controls and support oversight of grants, restricted funds, special projects, and funding agreements.
- Assist with GST filings, CRA compliance, regulatory reporting, and audit preparation.
- Support year-end financial preparation and coordinate with accountants during reviews or audits.
- Provide QuickBooks support and promote consistent accounting practices.
- Provide financial oversight for fundraising events and support grant applications with financial information.
- Present financial highlights, year-end results, goals, trends, and key financial information to members.
- Promote sound financial management, report financial risks, safeguard Society assets, and maintain appropriate controls.
- Work in accordance with bylaws, policies, legislation, and key partners to support financial sustainability.
Qualifications
- Experience in finance, accounting, bookkeeping, budgeting, or related financial services.
- Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliation, budgeting, risk management, and financial reporting.
- Ability to provide leadership, support strategic financial decisions, and collaborate with Board members.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Non-profit or Board experience is preferred but not required.
