Job Title: Material Handling Technician
Location: Sarnia, ON
Schedule: Full-Time -12-Month Contract
Our client is seeking a Material Handling Technician to support safe and reliable operations at a manufacturing facility. This role involves material handling, warehouse operations, rail yard activities, inventory management, and operational support in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment.
What's the Job?
- Build boxes, package products, and stage finished goods for storage and shipment.
- Operate forklifts safely, including completing pre-operation inspections.
- Load and unload transport trailers, vans, containers, and railcars.
- Move raw materials, additives, and finished products to support production requirements.
- Manage inventory transactions, adjustments, and documentation using SAP.
- Receive materials and review Certificates of Analysis (C of A) in accordance with quality requirements.
- Maintain accurate electronic records, logs, and paperwork.
- Monitor raw material inventories and communicate supply needs to appropriate stakeholders.
- Participate in shift starter meetings and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
- Receive, inspect, and ship inbound and outbound railcars.
- Coordinate railcar movements and maintain organization and housekeeping within the rail yard.
- Perform minor railcar maintenance, inspections, and sampling activities.
- Assist with hopper car cleaning, loading, sealing, and preloading inspections.
- Operate a locomotive for rail movements as required.
- Support polymer area operations by changing and cleaning filter screens, monitoring pump oil levels, emptying solution adsorbers, and transporting materials using a forklift.
- Provide relief coverage for packaging technicians as needed.
- Follow all safety procedures, including drug and alcohol testing, mask fit testing, and driver abstract requirements.
What's Needed?
- Secondary/High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Forklift operating experience is considered an asset.
- Post-secondary education is considered an asset.
- Proficiency with SAP, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to workplace safety and Responsible Care® principles.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to perform physical job duties in a manufacturing, warehouse, and rail yard environment.
- Valid driver’s abstract and ability to meet safety-sensitive position requirements.
