One of our key retail clients is seeking an experienced bookkeeper to be employed in their office in the east end of Ottawa. This dynamic client has a significant on-line retail presence across Canada and the United States. The business offers a hybrid work opportunity and is seeking a candidate to manage the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of their retail business. The candidate would be working with the external accountants and reporting directly to senior management.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manage bookkeeping for a retail company using Quickbooks Online
- Preparation of required monthly reconciliations for banks and credit cards, and other assets and liabilities
- Administer all aspects of payroll, including preparation of compliance reports and resolution of payroll issues
- Post and reconcile daily sales summaries for Point of Sale (POS) systems and assist with collections procedures
- Ensure compliance with all aspects of governmental reporting, including HST, payroll, EHT, WSIB and other sales taxes
- Inventory accounting including month-end valuation adjustments and recording of cost of goods sold (COGS)
- Communicating with other departments and management on a proactive basis to maintain efficient and accurate financial reporting
- Maintain clear documentation of processes and accounting records
- Summarize data for the external accountants to prepare accurate financial statements for review with management.
Qualifications:
- College Diploma in Bookkeeping or equivalent
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in full cycle bookkeeping, with background in a Canadian retail environment
- Experience with use of QuickBooks Online and multi-currency transactions
- Working knowledge of legacy accounting software, such as Sage 50 / QuickBooks Desktop would be an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook
