As a Senior Electrical Designer, you will play a crucial role in supporting our engineering team by creating detailed technical drawings and electrical designs for various projects. This role is responsible for ensuring technical excellence and consistency on all deliverables, reviewing electrical drawings contributing to decision making and mentoring junior and intermediate designers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Be self-sufficient or nearly self-sufficient in developing construction drawings for electrical, control, and instrumentation systems primarily on Oil & Gas Facilities.
- Manage concurrent projects / deliverables, prioritizing deliverables effectively to meet tight deadlines and competing demands. Ability to delegate tasks appropriately to team
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to develop cohesive designs and complete drawing packages aligned with scope, schedule, and budget.
- Verify drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with specifications and industry standards. Review and adhere to CANUSA EPC Design standards and/or client design standards.
- Design and optimize the spatial arrangement of electrical equipment within buildings to ensure functionality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct thorough checks of internal drawings and provide actionable feedback on vendor drawings to maintain design quality and alignment with project standards.
- Building full electrical and instrumentation packages for industrial facilities based on a provided load list, one line diagram, P&ID set, and plot plan.
- Supporting the PDC / substation group as needed with drafting / designing
- Develop and maintain electrical typical and standard drawings
Experience in:
- Area Classification
- Cable schedule development
o Cable sizing, voltage drop calculation, and conduit fill calculations a plus
- Electrical and instrumentation location plans and cable / conduit routing
- Grounding plans
- Cable tray details, duct bank details
- One line diagrams development based on a load list
o OCPD sizing a plus
- Panel schedules
- I/O list development based on a set of P&IDs
- Motor starter / VFD schematics
- Heat trace design
- Lighting design / layouts
- Contactor panel design
- Control panel design, including panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and loop sheets
- Control junction box design
- Network architecture diagrams
- Three-line diagram design a plus
- 3D modelling experience a plus
Requirements:
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls (EI&C) design within oil and gas facility environments.
- Working knowledge with API and CEC, regulations and standards. NEC a plus
- Demonstrated passion and experience in mentoring and guiding junior drafters and designers.
- Skilled in 3D modeling and design tools used in multidisciplinary engineering projects an asset.
- Highly motivated, self-directed, and thrives in both independent and collaborative team settings.
- Advanced ability to use AutoCAD
- QA/QC checking experience
