In this position you will work as a key team member of the Okanagan Materials Testing Laboratory team located in Kelowna, BC. The successful candidate will be mentored by a variety of highly specialized professionals and will gain valuable experience in the concrete engineering and consulting industry.
This intermediate/ senior fulltime position will perform advanced materials testing on Concrete & Aggregates. There is a strong requirement for QA/QC procedures, coordination of project testing, reporting, and teamwork.
This opportunity will introduce you to a great team, helping you build key skills that you will need as a Concrete Laboratory Engineer, specifically concrete properties for construction.
To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
- Plan and execute projects focused on cement and concrete materials using specialized mix designs and performing durability testing to assist our clients with projects throughout Western Canada.
- Perform routine QA/QC tests on raw materials, cementitious mixes, and finished products to ensure compliance with internal specifications and ASTM/CSA standards.
- Prepare, and mix cement, mortar, and concrete samples for laboratory and field-oriented testing.
- Conduct mechanical and durability evaluations (e.g., compressive and flexural strength, chloride permeability, shrinkage, freeze–thaw resistance) to assess long-term performance of cement and concrete products.
- Prepare technical reports summarizing test methods, data analysis, and conclusions for internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate lab records and documentation of all QA/QC results and experimental data.
- Ensure lab safety, cleanliness, and equipment maintenance.
- Highly organized and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments.
- Effectively communicating test results to the Laboratory Team Lead & Principal Engineers in verbal and written form, timely and effectively.

About you
- Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering or Materials Engineering Technology Programs.
- 2–3 years of experience in materials engineering, construction materials, or a related field.
- Eligibility for registration as an EIT or P.Eng. with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
- Capability to calibrate, troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform routine repair to laboratory instrumentation to ensure they operate at an optimal level.
- Ability to adapt to changing work conditions and schedules on short notice.
- Capable of regularly lifting 25 kg test samples as required by the applicable test procedure.
- Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $55,000 - $75,000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
Local Candidates will be preferred, and no relocation package will be offered.
