As the firm continues to evolve, this newly created Finance Manager position will play an important role in strengthening financial operations, enhancing reporting capabilities, and supporting strategic decision-making across the organization.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
Reporting to the Managing Partner, you’ll operate as both a hands-on finance leader and strategic partner, balancing day-to-day operations with longer-term planning and process improvement. You will:
Lead financial reporting and planning
- Prepare and present monthly financial reports and insights to partners
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis
- Support business planning and recommend partner distributions
- Develop financial metrics and identify opportunities for improvement
Own core accounting operations
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and billing
- Improve collections processes and reduce aging AR
- Manage month-end and year-end processes
- Process partner distributions, expense reimbursements, and tax reporting
Manage trust accounting and compliance
- Oversee financial compliance requirements and internal controls
- Manage audits, regulatory reporting, and financial recordkeeping
- Ensure timely remittance of GST, PST, payroll, and related filings
- Maintain accuracy and integrity across all financial processes
Drive systems and operational improvements
- Improve workflows, reporting, and internal processes
- Manage vendor contracts and renewal tracking
- Support the evolution of the firm's finance function and provide direction to accounting support resources as the team grows

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE
- CPA designation required
- 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance leadership experience
- Experience leading full-cycle accounting operations
- Strong financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting skills
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate financial information into practical insights
- Strong ownership mentality and proactive approach
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution
NICE TO HAVES
- Law firm or professional services experience
- Trust accounting experience and familiarity with Law Society requirements
- Experience supporting growing small-to-medium organizations
- Experience implementing process improvements and operational efficiencies
