B&A Petroleum Ltd. is seeking a qualified, detail-oriented Prudent Operations Safety Manager to ensure all company operations adhere to established safety standards and regulations. This FT permanent position is based in Swift Current and requires travel to satellite locations in SW SK to implement, monitor, coordinate and maintain company regulatory standards through safe, efficient and informed compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate will possess a balance of strong safety knowledge, experience, and administrative capabilities, familiarity with the industry, and the ability to work collaboratively with management and staff. Primary responsibilities include:
- Coordinate and implement all aspects of safety program at all sites.
- Work collaboratively with Owners, managers and staff to address gaps and strengthen safety culture.
- Be knowledgeable about OSHA regulations, TDG, WHMIS and related Federal/Provincial safety standards.
- Monitor and benchmark levels of service and performance in compliance with Petro-Canada standards and act as liaison between sites and regulatory agencies, and industry auditors.
- Stay informed about changes in safety laws and industry best practices while providing oversight to ensure ongoing monitoring, implementation and compliance by staff and required updates/documentation.
- Promote a culture of safety awareness through communication and leadership so all staff have a clear understanding of and are in compliance with safety rules, policy, procedure and safety requirements.
- Collaborate with management to assess and monitor emergency, prevention and waste management plans.
- Work with sites to conduct drills, investigate accidents/incidents to determine root causes, implement corrective actions, address gaps, provide follow-up support and maintain necessary documentation. At times will require flexible hours.
- Conduct regular, ongoing site visits, collaborate with managers, make recommendations to owners based on observations/consultations/data, assist with oversite of OWS/Cardlocks, maintenance, repairs and construction.
- Participate in site safety meetings, inspections and audit checklists at all locations and conduct spot checks, critical tasks, performance observations, driver ride alongs, site inspections, and hazard analysis.
- Coordinate and track worker training, certifications, and competency programs and maintain related training records records/files and requirements for compliance standards.
- Provide safety training sessions for new hires and ongoing training/retraining for existing staff, Red Book Monitoring and assist with Monthly Safety Compliance for all drivers.
- Oversee safe operation of equipment and assist preventative maintenance monitoring and compliance.
- Possess authority to supervise and evaluate all areas of safety and personnel at all sites, and if necessary, in consultation with ownership, enforce the discipline policy.
- Know, monitor and ensure safe handling and storage requirements for all products in inventory.
- Do cost tracking and analysis for site repairs, and assist with sourcing materials and cost saving measures.
- Participate in Manager’s Meetings, lead Toolbox Meetings, and Participate in the EH&S Committee.
- Research and provide accurate safety updates, maintain accurate records/forms/inspections/policy and procedure including document control, reporting, and database management as required.
- Order, track and ensure safe guards, safety appliances, spill and winter kits, fire extinguishers and personal protective equipment are provided and used in accordance with regulations.
- Other duties as assigned by Owners.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Excellent communication and leadership skills required to effectively train/coordinate staff, document/report findings.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to identify hazards, develop mitigation strategies and interpret legislation.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational/administrative/computer skills for recordkeeping, documentation, scheduling.
- Ability to take charge and respond calmly and effectively in emergent or emergency situations.
- Must be physically fit, have a clean driver’s abstract, criminal record check, pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, 3 references, eligible to work in SK, and willing to travel and work in a variety of conditions.
- Mechanical ability and technical credentials would be an asset, safety related certifications/experience required.
- Valid Class 1A or Class 3 Driver’s License and or related industry experience would be an asset.
