THE OPPORTUNITY
The Credit & Collections Specialist plays a critical role in supporting Weston Forest's financial health by managing customer credit risk and ensuring timely collection of accounts receivable. Based at our head office in Brampton, Ontario, this position works closely with Sales, Finance, Accounting, and Operations teams to monitor customer credit exposure, evaluate new credit applications, manage collections activities, and provide reporting and analysis to support business decisions.
This role requires a balanced approach that combines strong relationship-building skills with sound financial judgment, helping protect the company's interests while maintaining positive customer partnerships.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Credit Management
- Review and assess new customer credit applications, trade references, and financial information.
- Establish and monitor customer credit limits in accordance with company policies and risk tolerance.
- Maintain accurate customer credit files and supporting documentation.
- Recommend credit holds, limit adjustments, or other risk mitigation measures when necessary.
- Monitor customer credit exposure and identify potential risks proactively.
Collections & Accounts Receivable
- Monitor accounts receivable aging reports and follow up on overdue accounts in a timely and professional manner.
- Communicate with customers regarding outstanding balances, payment delays, and account discrepancies.
- Collaborate with Sales and Operations teams to resolve issues impacting payment collection.
- Negotiate payment arrangements while balancing customer relationships and cash flow objectives.
- Maintain detailed collection records and account notes.
- Prepare and distribute weekly accounts receivable status reports for management review.
Reporting & Analysis
- Track collection performance metrics and identify trends in customer payment behavior.
- Support month-end close activities through account reconciliations and AR reporting.
- Assist with audits and provide data analysis and reporting support to Finance leadership.
- Prepare account summaries and documentation as required.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Sales teams to ensure alignment on customer credit status, payment terms, and risk exposure.
- Partner with Accounting to ensure accurate application of customer payments and account reconciliations.
- Provide insights and recommendations that support process improvements and dispute reduction.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency and reporting accuracy.
WHAT YOU BRING
Education & Credentials
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Credit or collections certification (e.g., CCP, CIC) is considered an asset.
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in credit, collections, accounts receivable, or a related finance function.
- Experience within a distribution, manufacturing, industrial, or supply chain environment is preferred.
- Strong understanding of credit analysis, collections practices, customer account management, and AR processes.
- Experience working with ERP systems and financial reporting tools is an asset.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound judgment in credit-related decisions.
- High attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP systems (e.g., Great Plains, TallyWorks, Salesforce or equivalent).
- Comfortable working with reporting tools, financial data, and AI-enabled technologies.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative mindset with strong cross-functional relationship-building skills.
