Company Description
Red Tree Audio Visual Productions has been transforming the conference AV experience across Canada since 2007. Focused exclusively on conferences, we deliver all-inclusive, purpose-built packages designed for professional event planners, associations, and educational organizations. With strategically located teams in Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver, Red Tree provides consistent, seamless service nationwide. Our approach combines high-quality, well-maintained equipment, dedicated on-site support, and a smooth planning process that makes AV the simplest part of any event. Transparent pricing and an obsessive attention to detail reflect our commitment to doing this one thing exceptionally well.
Role Description
This is a freelance, on-call role based in Calgary, AB, supporting conferences at the city's leading hotels, convention centres, and event venues. As a Freelance AV Technician, you'll set up, operate, and troubleshoot complete conference AV systems including audio, video, projection, switching, and lighting, and keep them running flawlessly through multi-day, agenda-driven events. You'll work alongside our event teams and interface directly with planners and presenters, so professionalism and a calm, solutions-first presence under pressure matter as much as technical skill.
Because conferences in Calgary run on tight load-in windows and our venues are spread across the city and surrounding area, reliable access to your own transportation is required.
This is freelance work that respects your experience: clear scopes, professional clients, quality gear, and a company that treats its technicians as the backbone of the business rather than an afterthought. If you're an experienced conference tech who values doing the job right over chasing chaos, you'll fit in well here.
What You Bring
- Solid, hands-on command of conference AV systems, confident with setup, operation, signal flow, and maintenance across audio, video, and projection
- Strong, fast troubleshooting instincts to resolve technical issues live, without disrupting the room
- Experience with video conferencing and hybrid-event platforms for seamless virtual and in-person delivery
- Working knowledge of lighting systems and event presentation setups
- Proficiency operating and configuring projectors and large-format displays for varied conference layouts
- Sharp organizational and time-management skills to keep load-in, rehearsal, and showtime on schedule
- Excellent communication and client-service skills, since you represent Red Tree in the room
- Reliable access to your own transportation to reach Calgary venues on schedule
- Relevant AV or IT technical certifications are an asset
- Prior conference or live-event support experience is a strong plus
